How to Vote in SG Elections

Published on February 12th, 2018

So you’re thinking to yourself, “Why should I even vote. It’s not like anything at UM will ever change.” I thought that too! But a helpful article (like this one 😀) and a semester in Student Government helped me to understand why voting is important and why running is equally as critical.

Here are Five Ways You Can Voice Your Concerns this Coming Election:

OrgSync

OrgSync is not only used by clubs to get new members and dinero but also to vote in SG elections. On February 12th, voting begins for President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Senator positions and ends on the 14th. It’s fast, easy, and you elect those who will truly make a difference on campus.

University Center Breezeway

Just like last semester, Student Government Elections Commission will have laptops open to vote in the Breezeway. On your way to class stop by and cast your vote! It will only take a few minutes and save you a lot of headache in the future!

SG Website

So you’re probably wondering how do I express my concerns to Student Government throughout the year. Don’t worry there’s a website for that! On the SG website there’s a link on the homepage that says share an idea. There you can share what SG should bring to campus and how campus can be improved. This is an excellent resource to let SG know how students truly feel.

Office Hours

Every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Senate holds office hours for students to express their concerns. Stop by the Rock Plaza and discuss new iniativities over delicious pastries.

Run for Office

So you have great ideas about how you can change the campus but don’t know how to do it? Join Student Government! Whether it be in the executive positions as President, Vice-President, and Treasurer or Senate getting involved is the first step to letting the administration know how you truly feel. It looks great on your resume btw and you get to work with amazing people who support your initiatives.

Making sure that your voice is heard is a huge step to becoming a leader on campus and voting or running for office is an important first step!
