The new runway is everyday life—where fabulous reaches unchartered heights allowing the Plain Jane to become a style celeb. But, in reality, these new bloggers are not everyday folk. Nor are their subjects, the typical Plain Jane. Creating a well viewed blog in a world where everyone wants to be someone is no easy feat. These bloggers have an eagle eye for fashion. Each of these blogs inspires loyal viewers with its unique style. From vintage finds in San Francisco, posh prep in New York, and especially the sexy style Miami is known for, it’s possible that everyday style is “it”.
One of the most famous blogs was started by a photographer hoping to create a dialogue between fashion and the real world. His blog, http://www.thesartorialist.com/ is now one of the most famous with his work featured in GQ and Vogue Italia. His blog showcases those who look so effortless chic that you wonder if they are part of a clothing campaign for one of the hottest designers.
A blog that takes a different route is http://www.chicagostreetstyle.com/ whose author provides brief captions above her pictures explaining her mentality and reasons for photographing the specific individual. Her blog features the laid back, yet flattering style gals of the famous windy city. Her cite was highlighted in the The New Yorker where she was featured as the only American photographer in a list of top 15 street style blogs.
A few of our favorites include http://jakandjil.com/ where Canadian photographer Tommy Ton (who also photographs for Style.com and GQ) captures street style from all over the world and http://evachen212.tumblr.com/ where multihyphenate Eva Chen keeps readers up-to-date on her fabulous life and answers fan questions about fashion, beauty, and careers in the industry!
And don’t think the fashion mags are going to look the other way as sites like Style.com have gotten in on the action covering the real life fashions of events like Coachella.
This trend is so hot that the recent documentary Take My Picture, has the fashion world awry.
So who will be the style icons of this century? With social media, style advice can come from anyone these days. Supermodels may be hot, but the new Supermodels may not be the most revered in the fashion world as these bloggers take over throwing the everyday gal into the spotlight.
