Excuse our freaking out, but our FAVORITE week of the year is here. That’s right fellow fashionistas, it’s New York Fashion Week starting today, September 5th, and concluding September 12th! You can feel like you’re glaring at the runway as Anna Wintour ‘s righthand girl by watching the live stream of all the shows. So who will be there? I think the real question is: Who won’t be at this industry event of the year? The week kicks off with Nicholas K and one of our old (but never out of style) BFFs, BCBGMAXAZRIA. For those who haven’t heard of Nicholas K, it is a design company started by two fashionable siblings. If you visit his website, you’ll notice clothing so fashion forward it is truly trippy. Whether it’s the futuristic goggles, the hooded scarves, or the black, white, and – we don’t even know what – Nicholas K’s mind-blowing fashion will surely start the show off with a bang! And, with Azria’s huge celeb following, you can be sure to see some of Hollywood’s hottest names at the BCBG show.
The final day is a throwback to some of our all time faves with Betsey Johnson, or is it Dr. Betsey whose show invites took the form of real prescription bottles filled with mini breath mints. She’ll remind us just how much we want her stores back! (#bankrupt). And don’t miss Anna Sui and Rachel Zoe who also incorporate prints and patterns into their collections.
Other top picks to tune into are J. Crew (Thanks Michelle Obama!), Lacoste (still feeling preppy), Vera (no last name needed) Wang, and definitely don’t miss Diane von Furstenberg.
And, a groundbreaking first at NYFW, in a fashion world where skinny, mean, and meaner are the only way, there is finally the first plus size designer showing. Check out Eden Miller’s line Cabiria which we think will take the fashion world by storm. With lines produced in the same factory as Ralph Lauren, Miller compares her clothing not only to other plus size lines, but rather places them in the broader world of fashion. We say, “You go girl!”
However, one fashionable name that is noticeably missing on the roster is designer Isaac Mizrahi who licensed his name and sold his company. While he may have disappeared from the fashion world, Mizrahi is more in the public eye than ever in another art fashionistas love – the theater. Instead of his clothes putting on a show, the man himself can belt out a tune. While we’ll miss his fashions, we sure wish we had his many talents. Even without the great Mizrahi, NYFW will certainly still be an event to remember, although we can’t confirm whether this will be due to the outstanding runway collections or even more memorable meltdowns, hair pulling, and other events that are limited to the crazy fashion world.
Tweet us your favorite picks and most atrocious outfits you see @DistractionUM and your thoughts could be featured in an upcoming blog post! For now, what better to way to get excited for NYFW than with this awesome preview vid.
