Distraction had the chance to get the inside scoop from UM’s Victoria’s Secret campus representatives, Vanity and Jessica, about this year’s awesome upcoming events, their favorite trends and even a sneak peek into the flurry of activity in the VS headquarters.

Distraction: So who are our reps? Tell us a little about yourself?
Vanity: I’m a marketing major from California, a Junior this year, and a sister of ZTA.
Jessica: I am a senior double majoring in PR and studio art.
Distraction: Why did you decide to become a VS campus rep, and what do you think made you stand out from other applicants?
Vanity: Why wouldn’t you want to be a VS campus rep? I am obsessed with the lines and wanted to get into fashion marketing for a long time. I got the notice from VS and thought this was perfect. My experience has made me stand out the most. I have had eight internships, and I know what I am doing with event planning and deadlines. If I say I will do something, it will happen.
Jessica: I started getting involved with PINK last year as part of the street team. After this great experience, I fell in love with PINK and knew I wanted to be a campus rep. I was chosen because of the fact that I had been involved with the street team before and had a feel for the events. I was very passionate, and they saw that through my application.
Distraction: What was the coolest part of attending the campus rep training? It looked like you were treated like true VIP’s!
Vanity: Getting picked up from the airport in a limo was pretty awesome! Another highlight was going to headquarters and getting to see the 2012 Fashion Show outfits displayed right as we walked in. But the coolest part was the pop up shop where we were surprised with tons of free items!
Jessica: From start to finish, the campus rep training was unbelievable. They flew us there from our hometowns. From the moment they picked us up at the airport, they had little treats waiting for us and events scheduled throughout the day with the other awesome campus reps. The freebies were just the beginning of this amazing experience filled with a big sleepover party and a trip to the PINK headquarters. It really makes me want to try to pursue a career with VS in the future.
Distraction: What’s the scoop on PINK fun to look forward to this semester?
Vanity: There are going to be tons of contests. This week is PINK Spirit Week; we are having a social media contest among sororities and a Dorm Storm competition between Hecht and Stanford. Via Instagram, whichever dorm regrams the most wins a prize for their entire dorm! We will also have trivia questions with hourly prizes. The day of the game, anyone we see wearing UM PINK items will get a freebie. There is also the annual fashion show watch party which will be even bigger than last year. Hint: We may even rent the UC Ballroom! Every Friday is Freebie Friday with a Twitter competition. Anyone who retweets the tweet will have her name put in a hat, and we pick a winner. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and you can be sure PINK will be active during these events.
Jessica: We are going to have tons of competitions and contests to get the girls excited about PINK products and into the stores to see all the products specifically for UM. We want girls on campus to be as excited for PINK as we are.
Distraction: It looked like the applications for the Street Team were flying in. What can we expect of our superstar Street Team?
Vanity: We can expect organized, fun-filled events from girls that are die-hard Pinkhearts. These girls are probably more obsessed than the brand than I am. They are also a nice range of grades – a good representation of every generation.
Jessica: It is really awesome to be a part of the Street Team because you get an inside look on the events from planning to packing goodies for girls at the events. I had a blast being on the Street Team last year so I know the girls chosen will have a great time.
Distraction: Victoria’s Secret has had substantial success in the college market, are there any secrets you can share about how they have continued to stay stylish and relevant in a constantly changing fashion world?
Vanity: They rely heavily on focus groups. A large part of our training was focus groups. They held up merchandise and took notes on our views. We are actually hosting a focus group in Miami September 13th. Check the Victoria’s Secret PINK – University of Miami Facebook page or Twitter for more info.
Jessica: One of the main reasons for the campus rep position is so they can get feedback about what we like and want to see on campus this semester. One thing we did at the VS headquarters is meet with all the merchants, and our feedback helps inspire future seasons.
Distraction: What is your favorite item from this season’s line?
Vanity: The Boyfriend Quarter Zip is my favorite because I don’t like my sweatshirts to be small, and I like them to be a little baggy. The sweatshirt is a size small and great to pair with a cute pair of leggings and combat boots when you are being lazy. It’s light enough to wear outside Miami when I’m walking around, but still keeps me warm when I’m inside the freezing classrooms.
Jessica: I really love the new Spirit Jersey debuting this fall and the new Galaxy Stretch Leggings.
Distraction: What is your favorite game day outfit?
Vanity: I would wear a VS crop top, mock orange jersey that says “Miami” and “25” with high waisted shorts or spandex, high knee socks, and my white converse with “Go Canes” on the side.
Jessica: My favorite game day outfit would be an orange v-neck tee, a pair of shorts, and white converse.
Distraction: How do you follow fashion? Any favorite websites or TV shows?
Vanity: I go onto weheartit.com, and I also follow Lauren Conrad’s blog. I also go on Tumblr a lot and follow Kylie Kardashian’s blog; it’s really cool.
Jessica: My fashion inspiration comes from Pinterest, and I love looking on Freepeople.com. A lot also comes from travel including different places I have been to like London and Spain.
Distraction: And, we have to ask, Alessandra Ambrosio or Gisele Bundchen?
Vanity: Gisele. I love her. I’m obsessed.
Jessica: My favorite VS model is Candice [Swanepoel] , and my favorite PINK model is Elsa [Hosk].
