Spring has awakened with creative director Sarah Burton’s collection for Alexander McQueen and it has all of us buzzing with excitement. Burton excelled at combining fashion with nature in a fresh, optimistic way that is the very definition of spring. The black and gold, iridescent color palette mixes with honeycomb detailing to convey the image of a beehive. Beekeeper hats mask the face creating an air of mystery, while honeycomb lace created a look the combines macabre with exaggerated femininity. Hints of eroticism also made their debut with slips of black bras and large hip proportions.
The collection came together as captivating rather than unrealistic. No person can say that their jaw did not drop when they saw the thousands of flowers adorning spring-colored floor length dresses. Tying it all together were reverse corseting over the dresses that mimicked beehive cages!
One thing for sure is that nature-meets-fashion is a trend that we will be seeing much more of. Steal the trend this spring and become a McQueen bee instantly.
